Winchester Revival

This band from East Bay, California is composed of four members: Kirk Snedeker : drums; Ron Cruz : bass; David Rosenheim : vocals; Matt Glick : electronics; Andrew Lund : guitar, backing vocals

Right from the start this unique band stands out from other artists in a good way within this overly saturated market. Their answer to mundane music is to deliver something unique, and powerful full of light hearted tales of fun and intellectual Rush-type lyrics and wisdom. In this overly saturated market with a plethora of Do it Yourself artists coming out of the woodwork, armed with nothing more than a PC, Microphone, a guitar and a crappy sounding CD – it’s nice to know there are a few artists out there that can still deliver music that will make your jaw hit the floor while inspiring you to start a riot at the same time. These new artists I speak of manage push their music out to the world and much of it is, do I dare say substandard in nature. So enter a hot band like Winchester Revival who just released their much anticipated “Eyes in the Canopy“ EP in 2014. So what do artists like Rush, 311, Hoobastank, Chevelle, and Queens of the Stone Age have that Winchester Revival don’t? Not much if you ask me save the multi million dollars promotional machines and major record label support. These guys are a good band break the mold with their classic neo-alternative rock sound and amazing movements that will mesmerize both the novice and advanced listeners alike.

This CD is shall I say off the hook good with entertaining songwriting that  has deep seeded 80’s rock roots but also possesses elements of Progressive Alternative Rock. Many of these tracks “Chemical Yellow” and Matterhorn” and the breathtaking closer ”Submarine Bell” delivers a smooth rock feel to them while “Wonderland” get my pick for best track on the catalog. The playing skills of this band are all over the map but manage to never cross into “freak show” territory. But getting back to this band – they are a premier talent that makes this whole experience special. Vocals from Rosenheim are intoxicating and the music is like a drug, and with the arsenal of experiences these five gently takes you by the hand and leads you down an impassioned 5 track journey called “Eyes in the Canopy.”

Right now after hearing the music of Winchester Revival I must say they are the quintessential Intellectual Alternative Rock band the world needs right now. If I had to compare them to one band it would be Perfect Circle and Rush because in the end these guys are probably a bunch of cool, intellectual nerds from the Oakland area that decided to form a good rock band, never looking back. I don’t say stuff like that often, and they are at the top of their game with this amazing crystal-clear sound and vibe.

All in all “Eyes in the Canopy” is a great musical advent. Apparently there are still a few bands out there believe in playing and writing music the way it is meant to be played – without airing their dirty laundry in the process.
