Philly Sings Philly

When the summer-loving citizens of our fair city begrudgingly breakout itchy scarves and wool hats, the music community retreats to a practice space and quietly rejoices. November – and the 4th annual Philly Sings Philly event – are nearly upon us. At the heart of Philly Sings Philly is the desire to explore our peers’ music, past and present, and the storied musical legacy of our city.

As tradition goes, our hometown heroes will gather at The Fire every Tuesday in November to pay homage to their idols, adding a personal touch to their favorite songs by Philly-born artists. This year, the event has further expanded with new bands, fresh faces, and weekly curators. In an effort to make this year’s PSP a true city-wide music sampler, the curators include the masterminds behind a burgeoning label, an independent music blog, and a successful house concert series. Bringing in different fans and different bands to the event seemed to be the best course of action to really celebrate the vast musical wealth that Philadelphia has to offer.

Joining the fray are American Diamond Recordings, the new collective headed up by Marley McNamara & Ron Gallo, Sofar Sounds: Philadelphia, who are celebrating their 3-year anniversary, and indie blog Root Down In The Shadow.

The full lineups will be announced each week, prior to the shows. But don’t miss out on Hezekiah Jones & Mason Porter starting things off in week 1, Cold Roses & City Rain during week 2, Kuf Knotz and Sean Hoots during week 3, and DRGN King and Pine Barons on week 4. To get ready for PSP 2014, look out for a download recorded during PSP 2013, provided by the folks at the Fire.
