Passion Crimes are fusing trip hop/electronic style with a rock band rhythm section, and I think we’re going to be hearing a lot from this Philadelphia trio.

Looking at these three, you may recognize the two gentlemen, Steven Rosplock and Jay Yachetta, from such bands as Phantasm and Wonder and Fury. They’re now joined by newcomer Marisa Vanella, who’s been releasing her music to a loyal internet fan base for the past five years. She had only worked with DJs until the formation of Passion Crimes.

At a Wonder & Fury show, Rosplock invited Marisa to join the band on stage to perform her original song Misbehave to a great response. This experience has inspired her to bring her songs from the internet to rock clubs for the first time.

“Watching the crowds reaction to that song was electric! I knew we had to do a record from that moment.” said Steven. “We spent the next 6 months writing and recording with Jay Yachetta (Phantasm / Wonder and Fury / Up All Night), working outside of my comfort zone of just electric guitars and using various samplers and keyboards”. The result is a record that, while being born in the digital, still lives, breathes, and feels like a rock band.

Passion Crimes have already been hitting the venues across the city. Stay in touch with the band on Facebook to find out about any upcoming shows. And download the track above from their Bandcamp to hold you over to the next gig.
