Known in their circle as rascals with big hearts and a wild sense of humor, This Way to the Egress is this week’s featured band.
Hailing from the streets of Bethlehem, PA; This Way to the Egress was founded by front man, accordion player, and cellist Taylor Galassi back in early 2008. With profound influences including Primus, Tom Waits, The Flaming Lips, Gogol Bordello, and Die Antwoord; This Way to the Egress is known for their colorful and energetic live performances being equal parts vaudeville and three ring circus. I mean, who can go wrong with confetti storms and puppets? And for all those pyros out there, there’s something for you too.
This Way to the Egress have been touring internationally since 2013, playing over 400 shows while consistently releasing new material. In addition to headlining local festivals like Musikfest, ArtsFest, and winning The MayFair Battle of the Bands competition; Egress has opened for the cult funk band Here Come the Mummies, and have received airplay in Germany, UK, Sweden, Mexico and Argentina. Songs from their latest full length album, Great Balancing Act (May 2015), has also been featured in publications such as The Alternate Root, CMJ, Magnet Magazine, The Vinyl District, and The Deli Magazine named them one of Philly’s top emerging acts.
This Way to the Egress are currently back in studio putting the finishing touches on the first music video off of Great Balancing Act. The new video features Halloween-esque stop-motion from animator Stefan Zenuik. Check out the teaser trailer here!
All of Egress’s material (three full length albums and three EPs) are available for free streaming and download on Bandcamp. Hard copies, including the translucent blue vinyl version of Great Balancing Act, as well as shirts and tote bags can be purchased at their online store.
This Way to the Egress is set to play the Dewey Beach Music Conference Saturday September 26th along with John Faye & Those Meddling Kids, The Late Saints, The Honey Badgers, Kid Felix, Hot Breakfast, and more! The Dewey Beach Music Conference runs September 24th through the 26th offering three nights of showcases and two days of demo & mentoring sessions, tradeshow and industry meet & greet events. The Dewey Beach Music Conference is a great place to explore career opportunities as well as experience some amazing live performances.
