unsung philly Unsung Philly in Studio, 6pm ET

We’ve been off for a few days, but tonight at 6pm ET we are back with Gashouse Live! We’ve got a few in-studio guests, a ton of new music, and a look at the weekend’s activities ahead.

Mike Z of Unsung Philly will be co-hosting the night which is always a good time. There’s also a rumor that Jersey Jim will be stopping, and you never know who else might wander through the studio.

We will be discussing the world of music both locally and nationally. We’ll be playing some tracks from the bands playing our big show at The Legendary Dobbs Saturday night, and we will be building anew Youtube playlist which always leads to great discussions. And let’s not forget all the new music we have lined up for you today:

: REVRBNATION PICK Under the direction of frontman, Timmy Whiting, Coastalrise has been creating together since October of 2010. This group of friends had no intention of becoming a band, but through a shared passion for their faith and their art, the music was a natural product of their friendship.
Coastalrise has been quickly rising on the indie scene.  Just after the release of their self-titled debut album in June of 2011, they showcased at the prestigious ‘Creation Festival NorthEast,’ where they took the top indie performer pick, landing them international recognition.

: REVERBNATION PICK Marla Mase is a writer/performer/producer/singer/songwriter from New York City. She writes songs, plays, monologues, short stories, erotica, blogs, and poems. She is known for her gutsy, sexy, raw performance style and her intelligent lyrics and is regarded by her peers as being a true musical pioneer. Her songs, a mix of world beat, spoken word, funk, r&b, punk, soul, and classic rock-n-roll are infused with GLOBAL SOUL, the signature sound of Tomás Doncker, her guitarist, co-writer and producer . She is backed by his band, the Tomás Doncker Band.

: While bursting onto the Philadelphia music scene as the city’s response to the deconstructed blues-rock pioneered by Jack White and The Black Keys, Modern Colour expanded their sound by experimenting with different genres and working with artists representative of each. Though the band is still a straightforward and in-your-face rock n’ roll group, a closer listen reveals layers of hip-hop, neo-soul, R&B, Americana, and funk influences hidden beneath the blues bars and driving drums. Modern Colour have a their CD Release show Saturday March 15th at The M Room.

: Already a regular on Gashouse Radio, this NY singer/songwriter just finished up a few new tracks that will be a part of The Radar. The 2 songs Kenny is debuting are completely DIY from arrangement to production. For more information on Kenny Fame, visit reverbnation.com/kennyfamemusic or follow him on Twitter @68levi.

Quinn Archer: This will now be the third straight day on The Radar for Quinn Archer. She is an LA-based singer/songwriter with a bit of a darker edge. We have 2 singles from Quinn and on tonight’s show we’ll be playing her first, Walk Through The Fire.

Riley RoadRiley Road plays a blend of Blues and Rock that has been described as “authentic power blues”. The band consists of guitarist Nick Cianci, drummer Isaiah Weatherspoon and bassist Brandon Walker and has been playing local to the Phoenixville – Pottstown – Malvern area as a trio since the Fall of 2010. The talent and creativity of this band creates high energy, dynamic music with a strong rhythm section. Riley Road is also playing the M Room on March 15th with Modern Colour, Working Class Villains, and Joe Robinson.

So do not miss tonight’s show! Fridays we also simulcast on neueregelradio.com, so join us in 1 of the 2 chat rooms! We’ve got great music, entertaining stories, giveaways and a brand of entertainment that you won’t find anywhere else.

Up Close And Acoustic with Matt Harlan

Tune in to Up Close And Acoustic this Sunday January 5 at 11am ET for a performance/interview with Matt Harlan.

Matt Harlan GHR 300x200 Up Close And Acoustic with Matt Harlan

Matt Harlan

This episode of Up Close And Acoustic is the first to feature live music recorded at the NERFA Conference in Upstate New York.

My guest Matt Harlan is a fine singer and songwriter from Houston, Texas. And if there’s a performer today that embodies the oft-applied moniker of “songwriter’s songwriter” it’s Houston favorite, Matt Harlan. With songs that are already well known in many circles Harlan’s studio work is just beginning to make its mark with his debut studio release, “Tips & Compliments”.

Matt’s songwriting has been getting some recognition lately with his album debuting at #1 on the Euro Americana Charts, awards from the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Billboard World Songwriting Contest, American Songwriter Magazine, the Wildflower Arts & Music Festival, Snowbird Mountain Music Festival and as a Regional New Folk winner at Kerrville.

You can also catch Matt featured alongside Texas music legends Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Nanci Griffith and others in the recent documentary, For the Sake of the Song.

In 2013, Matt won singer/songwriter of the year at the Texas Music Awards, hosted by the Academy of Texas Music.

Tune in Sunday at 11am Eastern for songs from Matt Harlan. thanks,

Charlie at Up Close And Acoustic

Donate Music Instruments, Be An Awesome Person

old sax Donate Music Instruments, Be An Awesome Person

I know there are a ton of Gashouse Radio listeners that have some sort of musical instrument just sitting in their garage, or in the back of their closet. Here’s a chance to do something great for someone else. Donate music instruments to children who want to learn! They’ll do a lot more good in a school!

A friend of ours has been working in the music program of an inner city school for years. He writes on Facebook:

So I work in an inner city public school. And I haven’t sniffed a new instrument since I’ve worked there, not even a repair to an old cruddy one. Well my good friends Kyle and Gabrielle have been kind enough to donate an old saxophone that no one is using and that got me to thinking that maybe there are other people on my friends list with old instruments for donation. Flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone or any percussion instruments (old drums or cymbals), especially practice pads . My kids use mostly mouse pads because that’s all I can personally afford. So if you have anything worth donating let me know. Thank you.

So please, if you have anything you can spare, please email info@gashouseradio.com, or get a hold of us on Facebook, Twitter, etc. We will make arrangements to get your donations over to the school.

Thank you!
