new music this week

Each week we debut some of the latest submissions from independent artists as art of our segment The Radar. We receive hundreds of submissions each week, and we want to make sure everyone gets a listen. So each week we debut 8-10 bands. They are played all week long as part of The Radar.

There are 3 rounds of The Radar every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Round 1 is at 9am ET, round 2 is at 2pm ET and the third round is during Gashouse Live at 6pm ET. Each round is filled with new music from the bands on The Radar. So let’s take a look at the new music this week:

Deborah CrooksCalifornia songwriter Deborah Crooks‘ lyric driven and soul-wise music draws on folk, rock, Americana and the blues.  Often compared to Lucinda Williams and The Cowboy Junkies, she’s recorded three full-length CDs of original music, toured the North and Southwest, was named to Music Connection magazine’s 2012′s HOT 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands and was a recent finalist in both the 2014 EcoArts Awards and Earth Day Marin/West Coast Songwriters Song Contest.  Her latest Cd “Little Bird,” produced by Art Khu, was released in late 2013.

Foreign Skies: Foreign Skies are a three piece post-rock band from Glasgow. They have recently just released their debut EP This Human Error and we will be playing it in rotation all week.

Kiven: While their musical influences have undoubtedly come from a wide array of musical and artistic spectrums, this quartet ultimately blends together to create the band’s unique and personal sound. Kiven’s music is a culmination of musicianship, individuality and represents the balance of passion verses the necessities of modern life.

The Hawkeyes: REVERBNATION PICK The Hawkeyes of Pittsburgh, PA play a raw and driving brand of rock ’n roll that is as much about honesty as it is attitude. The Hawkeyes will be in town playing Connie’s Ric Rac on June 6th, and I believe they might stop by the studio as well.

Lost In Company: REVERBNATION PICK Lost in Company is comprised of five individuals from a variety of different musical backgrounds. Like puzzle peices, these five artists come together and create something that is unexpected, exuding a feeling of soul that is not only real but tangible.

The Diabolical MachinesThe Diabolical Machines area a four-piece power pop band from Fort Worth, Texas. Combining lit-rock songwriting with retro-tinged musicality, they create a high-energy blend of sounds and instrumentation.

Lazy LeeLazy Lee is a Canadian electro/pop/funk band born in Montreal in 2010. With members coming from different musical backgrounds including jazz, rock, pop, funk, R&B, gospel and electronic music the blend that emerged from this collaboration is a unique sonic signature that define their style and outline their strength. The band released their first album ELECTROMAGNETIC CIRCUS on September 10th 2013.
