On Thursday, March 19th, MergeArts will bring Music, Fashion and Art together in one brilliant showcase at Coda

MergeArts is an organization that provides a consistent platform and small business resource for artists. Their monthly events are multi-genre; with 30+ artists bringing Art, Music and Fashion into a live show. They also produce a bimonthly series of workshops and seminars which are designed to educate our creative class as small business owners and connect them with their industry professionals.

On Thursday, March 19th at Coda you’ll be surrounded by 4 bands, 6 Fashion runways, 14 visual artists and 750 of the region’s creative class. We open doors at 7pm; after that it’s rock-runway, rock, runway all the way to midnight. Tickets are $15 online, or $20 at the door. You may recognize some of the bands playing this event:

those-people-150Those People: formed by two music and English teachers tired of playing covers. Their early demos garnered attention from local radio stations (WMMR, WZZO) and promoters, and opened the doors to some of Philadelphia’s preeminent stages (Milkboy, North Star Bar, Kung Fu Necktie, to name a few). Their electric live shows earned them invites to play the Liberty Music Festival and the South Street Spring Festival.

blakesleeBlakeslee: pulling vocal inspiration from a range of artists starting at Etta James and continuing through the likes of Johnny Craig, the melodies cut through as intricate instrumentation sets the stage for a refreshing sound. Hailing from Philadelphia, Blakeslee offers listeners the opportunity to defy the boundaries of genre and have an honest listening experience.

overcoming gravityOvercoming Gravity: formed in 2013 with a powerhouse lineup. The name comes from a lyric in a Red Hot Chili Peppers song (Aeroplane), which is a mutual favorite amongst members of the band. The band is fronted by Phil La Placa, formerly of Even The Res with Saul Dratman, formerly of Give Me Gravity, on drums and Max Barruzza of Yeah Son! on bass.

spin-150SPiN: sometimes compared to bands like Muse, Queen, and The Cars, SPiN’s sound has been described as: “Classic epic songwriting with a modern pop twist!” (Luke Tozour-Pink, Katy Perry, Mika); “great hooks, melodic rock…and burbling synthesizers” (; “hard-driving power chords and edgy overtones layering over thoughtful, subtle melodic progressions” ( and “synth pop with rock aggression and catchy melodies” (
